Still undecided about the New Wave Enviro 10-stage water filter system? Let us help make your mind up with our in-depth review.

New Wave Enviro Review

We were pretty amazed to hear that this New Wave water filtration system has a staggering 10-stages of filtration that are said to remove pretty much all types of contamination that can be found in our tap water.

In fact, the only thing that is not reduced to some degree is the fluoride which is a little disappointing. That said, there’s not much else that will be able to escape the 10-stage water filter on this countertop system.

Easy to set up and with a filter that should last you at least a year before a replacement is needed, the Enviro has quickly become one of the more popular choices when it comes to countertop water filters.

How it Works

There are quite a variety of water filters out there and not all of them work in the same way. They use different methods to filter your tap water so it is important to understand the methods of any that you are considering before you purchase them.

When you let your water supply pass through the Enviro Water Filter, you will be subjecting it to ten different stages of filtration for it to clean, purify, and remove contaminants from it. Your water will then be in a much safer state for consumption by you or anyone else in your family.

There are two main principles when it comes to filtration. There’s physical filtering and also chemical filtering. The former is as you might expect with the water being put through a physical filter that will have small holes to let the water through but not anything bigger than those holes found in the water. This works great for large particle contaminants but can’t be solely relied upon as it won’t stop everything.

As for the latter, chemical filtration is when water is passed through an active filtration media that will chemically remove certain impurities. It usually does so by absorbing (or adsorbing) the contaminants from water.

Stages 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 of the 10-stage filtration process use micron filter pads of various sizes that will catch the physical entities while the remaining stages are all filters using various chemicals that are effective at chemically removing specific contaminants.

Activated carbon, KDF-55, and an ion exchange are the three main types of chemical filters used on the Enviro and between them, they will remove the majority of impurities from the water or reduce them to safe levels for consumption.

There’s also a calcite mineral stage which helps to raise the pH of the water to healthier levels. Alkaline water with a pH of above 7 is thought by many to be much better for our bodies. You can read more about this in our guide to alkaline water filter pitchers.

Which contaminants can it reduce?

As with any countertop filtration system, you will want to have an understanding of the contaminants that they are able to remove or reduce before making a decision on whether to purchase them. Some will specialize in removing a few impurities while the others such as the New Wave water filter will have a broad range of them that they are capable of getting rid of.

New Wave Enviro proudly claim to reduce levels of the following:

  • Trihalomethanes
  • Chlorine
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cadmium
  • Heavy Metals
  • Arsenic
  • PCBs
  • Asbestos
  • Rust
  • Dust
  • Dirt
  • Sediment

Important Note: While cramming 10 stages of filtration into a relatively small filter is quite an achievement and sounds like the ultimate in water filtration, it should be noted that this countertop system doesn’t have any official accreditation from NSF International or the WQA. This means you are taking New Wave Enviro’s claims of contaminant removal at face value, as they haven’t been ratified by an independent third party.

Ease of Use

While you might think that setting up a water filter to your water supply is going to be something that will take a lot of messing around, this is simply not the case with the 10 stage Enviro filter. Admittedly, if you want to install it under your sink it may take a little longer and will also need you to purchase the separate adapter that gives you the ability to do so.

If you are happy to use it on the counter, however, the installation will take nothing but a few minutes. Using it once installed is a simple as turning on a tap because that is all you have to do. All your tap water will now go through that filter, admittedly at a slightly slower flow rate than before.

Another nice touch with this filter is that you will get regular email reminders of when you first bought and started using the filter. This will allow you to keep track of how long you have been using the current filter and when you will need to start thinking about replacing it. The whole process will start over again once you have bought and installed a replacement filter.

Warranty

As with buying any product, it is always nice if you can get yourself some protection in case it is damaged or faulty, but not all water filters will provide you with one.

Fortunately, the New Wave Enviro 10 stage water filter does come with one. You get a limited one-year warranty that will cover you for any defects in the materials and workmanship.

Furthermore, you get an unconditional money-back guarantee that lasts for 30-days. That means that you can send it back and have your money returned no matter your reason for doing so.

Don’t like the color? Need the money for something else, or are you just not impressed? You will get it back, no questions asked.

This is particularly important with a system like this that doesn’t have any NSF International or WQA certification. You can do your own testing in the first 30-days and find out for yourself if it offers enough protection from whatever might be lurking in your local water.

Final Thoughts

If you were to do a bit of research on tap water you would quickly discover that there are so many impurities that can be found in the water that comes from your tap.

Do you really want to subject your family to these impurities? While you might be fine consuming small amounts of these contaminants, drinking it consistently over time is surely not going to be good for your health.

Additionally, one of the only other options is to drink mineral water. While this is much better for your health, the plastic bottles that it is sold in are not doing the environment any good at all.

So essentially, getting this Enviro 10 filter will not only improve your health but will also improve the health of the environment.

Cost is another reason when you work out how many glasses of clean water you will get from the Enviro 10.  Compare how much that would cost you in bottled water, you will quickly see how much in savings you will make.

Also, the initial cost is a one-off outlay with the only costs incurred will be whenever you replace the filter on a yearly basis.

The Bottom Line

There are a couple of really big things going for this filtration system. It can be attached to your water supply in seconds, can be mounted beneath the sink if you so choose and is stated as being able to remove just about any known water contaminant.

The filter is really quite impressive and offers some of the most thorough water filtration in a countertop system we’ve seen.

However, that lack of NSF/WQA certification is a definite drawback. The 30-day money back guarantee and one-year manufacturer’s warranty do offer some peace of mind though.

As for value for money, the New Wave Enviro 10 stage water filter reviews really well in this area. It is priced very reasonably in comparison to other countertop systems. Replacement filters do not cost too much either and you will probably only need to get them replaced once a year on average. It’s a really low maintenance system that doesn’t need to be worried about.

All in all, if you are looking for a good quality countertop water filter that has a good reputation at a good price and is very easy to look after, then you won’t do much better than the New Wave Enviro 10 stage countertop water filter.
